Chinese President Xi Jinping finally congratulates Joe Biden for beating Donald Trump

Must read

Chinese President Xi Jinping has finally sent his congratulations to Joe Biden for winning this year’s presidential election.

The Communist leader’s message, sent on Wednesday, said: ‘Promoting the healthy and stable development of China-US relations is…in the fundamental interests of both peoples.’

He added: ‘I hope to see both sides uphold the spirit of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and focus on cooperation while managing and controlling disputes.’

The message was released by China’s state-run news agency Xinhua, CNN reported.

Xi congratulated Biden two and a half weeks after the election was called by forecasters.

He spoke out as Russian President Vladimir Putin continued to refuse to recognize Biden as the winner, after President Trump made repeated and unfounded claims that he had lost unfairly.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman offered general congratulations to Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on November 13, six days after the election was called.

But that spokesman sounded a note of caution about the result, saying it could only be ‘ascertained in accordance with US laws and procedures.’
