CHRAN Alleges Plot to Sabotage Akwa Ibom University of Education Bill

By Ogenyi Ogenyi, Uyo

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has raised concerns over an alleged plot to sabotage the upgrade of the Akwa Ibom State College of Education into a University of Education.

The organization claimed that certain individuals outside the college community were attempting to use labour unrest to derail the state government’s efforts to facilitate the institution’s transition.

Speaking at a press conference in Uyo, CHRAN Director, Mr. Franklyn Isong, revealed that the alleged plot was uncovered through intelligence reports. He called on security agencies, college management, staff, and the public to remain alert and vigilant.

“CHRAN has noted that the sponsors of this plot aim to instigate unrest within the College, disrupt academic activities, and stall the ongoing process of upgrading the institution from a College of Education to a University of Education,” Isong stated.

Call for Action

CHRAN alleged that the plot’s sponsors were collaborating with some staff members and individuals within the college community to cause disturbances that could jeopardize the institution’s upgrade.

The Director commended Governor Umo Eno for prioritizing education in the state. He praised the governor’s commitment to developing the college, citing the ongoing construction of internal road networks and other infrastructural projects.

Additionally, he applauded the State House of Assembly for considering the bill to upgrade the college. He urged all stakeholders within and outside the institution to support the initiative in the best interest of the college and the state.
