Coalition Of Tertiary Education Students Call On Federal Government To Reopen Schools

Coalition of Borno state Tertiary Education Student leaders,took the streets of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital,on a peaceful demonstration to demand for the immediate re-opening of schools to enable them continue with their academic pursuits in their various institutions.

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ centre in MAIDUGURI,Wednesday,the President of students union government,SUG,UNIMAID chapter,Comrade Abdurahaman Sunoma,used the occasion to appeal to the Federal government to re-open their schools immediately.

Comprising of leaders of Students Union Government of the University of Maiduguri, Ramat Polytechnic, Mohammed Lawan College of Agriculture, MOGOLIS among others Marched from UNIMAID gate to the NUJ press center along Lagos street,where they addressed the press.

Comrade Sunoma said “we call on the Federal Government to re-open our school, so that we will continue with our studies. Education is our right and not a privilege. We demand for the immediate reopening of our schools”.

Also speaking, a student, Ibrahim Shehu, urged the Federal ministry of Education to order for the immediate reopening of schools.
“I have only one semester remain for me to graduate but due to the closure of the school I couldn’t graduate. We call for reopening of schools for us to complete our examination. I have wasted almost six months for nothing”.

It could be recalled, due to the Corona Virus pandemic, the Federal government early March this year ordered for the immediate shutdown of schools, markets mosques, sports centres,motor parks and Airports,which are gradually being re-open with no hope for tertiary institutions nationwide.
