Collapse Of Spars Branch Calabar

By Joseph ETTA in Calabar

The sprawling Indian Departmental Store SPARS branch in Calabar collapsed today damaging 13 vehicles. The incident which occurred at about 3:00pm appeared bizarre as there was no rain storm at the time of this occurrence.
When Daybreak visited the site at about 4:30pm crowd gathered around the site.

Broken, shattered roofs and distorted steel poles could be seen hanging with split and broken roofing sheets pinning down about 13 vehicles, no life however was lost.
According to an eye witness who preferred anonymity, “It just happened in my presence. I was passing by when I saw the roof and steel collapsed on the vehicles. The good thing is that nobody died. Daybreak observed that in the past weeks even last night in Calabar there were heavy storm, but this roof withstood those storms and now when there is no storm at all, the roof suddenly falls. It is surprising says an eye witness.
Speaking to Daybreak over the incident, the Mall manager, Mrs. Kemi Egbuna Daniel said, “we’ve notified our headquarters in Lagos about what happened and they will take care of the vehicles involve.
She called on the customers not to panic, we’re still open for business – that won’t affect business, she added.
