Concerned Group Calls for Governor Sule’s Intervention to Prevent Crisis in Awe LGA

A coalition of concerned indigenes from Awe Local Government Area has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule for urgent intervention in a brewing power struggle between two political factions within the council. This request comes as tensions rise ahead of the forthcoming local government election primaries, fueled by rivalry between the Turaki and Dan-Akano camps.

The group, operating under the banner of the Awe Local Government Council Concerned Group Coalition, expressed its concerns in an open letter addressed to the governor, signed by Abdullahi S. Awe on Saturday.

They warned that the divisions between the two factions—led by a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the current Commissioner for Agriculture—could escalate into violence if not addressed before the primaries.

“The lack of consensus within Awe Local Government poses a significant threat to peace and stability in the region,” stated Abdullahi S. Awe, Chairman of the Concerned Group Coalition. “Both factions are vying for dominance, and we believe a timely intervention by His Excellency will prevent potential conflict.”

The letter underscored the importance of the governor’s leadership in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process that reflects the collective will of the people.

“We respectfully suggest that Governor Sule invite all stakeholders and aspirants to a meeting where they can present their manifestos and ideas,” the letter proposed. “Such dialogue will enable His Excellency to make informed decisions that promote peace and unity.”

The coalition also raised concerns about the qualifications of some aspirants promoted by the factions, noting that certain candidates may lack basic literacy and the capacity to effectively represent the people.

“We need leaders who are competent and capable of advocating for the community, not individuals who are unfit for public office,” the letter asserted.

The group urged Governor Sule to act swiftly to maintain peace in the area, emphasizing that without intervention, the upcoming primaries could lead to violent confrontations between the rival factions. “Only through unity and consensus can we secure a bright future for our community,” they concluded.

As local government elections approach, all eyes are on the governor to see if he will heed the call for dialogue and avert a potential crisis in Awe.
