A former India parliamentarian, Atiq Ahmed, for kidnapping, has been shot dead alongside his brother while being escorted by the police for a medical checkup. The dastardly event, which occurred on Saturday, was reportedly captured on live television.
Expectedly, the footage of the two slain men had gone viral on some television stations as well as social media, with a gunman seen reaching over the shoulders of the police to point a pistol at the temple of the former lawmaker, whose turban was blown off as the gun discharged.
The parliamentarian’s brother, Ashraf Ahmed, was also shot and the two victims reportedly gave up the ghosts immediately, while the police quickly arrested and detained three men suspected of carrying out the dastardly act.
According to media reports, the suspected assailants had been posing as journalists. While one of them reportedly surrendered immediately after the shooting, the other two were subdued by the police.
The three suspects were reported to be among the crowd that gathered as the two brothers, alleged to be kingpins in a local criminal organisation, were being brought in handcuffs from a hospital Prayagraj city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening.
