Court issue arrest warrant on CCB Chairman over asset declaration

Gabriel Udeh, kaduna

Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna has issued arrest warrant on Code Conduct Bureau, CCB, chairman for failure to furnish the court with Asset Declarations of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state.

The approval for arrest warrant was granted to the publisher of The Union Newspapers during continuation of defense on Monday on a case of Assets declaration pending before the court, between it and Governor Elrufai.

The judge, Justice Mario Mohammed of court 2 granted the approval based on the application filed by Counsel to The Union Newspapers, Barrister J.N. Egwuonwu (SAN), during the continuation of defennse on Monday in Kaduna.

Barr. Egwuonwu represented by Barrister Hiifan Andrew Abuul had written an application to the court to Subpoena CCB to tender the asset declaration of the Governor before the court, and was approved by the court.

In an interview with Counsel to the The Union, Barr Abuul, described the court approval as a sound agreement in respect of application for warrant of arrest and granted same.

He said “before today’s proceeding, we applied to the court for subpoena against the CCB to tender setting documents in their custody. And despite previous adjournment we still serve them with subpoena in respect of today’s sitting, to tender the documents. And non of them, neither the chairman nor the staffs is in court to tender the documents. And it pursuant to that and Pursuant to provision of Order 253(2) of the evidence art that we applied that warrant of arrest to be issue against the chairman of CCB”, he said.
He continued that “It’s taken over 6 months the subpoena was issued, and they have taken no serious step to tender the documents. Therefore the court has given a sound agreement in respect of application for warrant of arrest and granted same. I think it’s in the best interest of of Justice and to make a head way for the case. This are the document which has to do with assets declaration forms which are in their custody.

“No wonder, how long does it take them to trace the asset declaration of senate president Bukola Saraki and prosecute him him in before code of conduct tribunal. Is it not the same system and crop of politician with the 1999 circle”, he lamented.
