Court stop Kaduna PDP from holding Congress on Saturday

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State chapter said it has received an ex-parte court order postponing the state congress scheduled for Saturday.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman and the Secretary, Hon. Bashir Tanimu Dutsinma and Hon Abdullahi Ali Kano respectively disclosed this in a statement issued, signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday.

The statement stressed that the party had already successfully completed the 23 local government congress last Wednesday and was planning for the state congress fixed for the next coming Saturday.

It explained that the party would abide by the directive of the court to postpone the Congress ‘while a new date will be announced as soon as possible.

It will be recalled, that the National Working Committee of the Party had reconstituted Kaduna State Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the party.

The action of the NWC, which is pursuant to section 29(2)(b) and 31(2) (e) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), is consequent upon the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing state caretaker committee.

The reconstituted Caretaker Committee is charged with the sole responsibility of running the affairs of the party in Kaduna state until a new executive committee is elected, for a period not exceeding 90 days (3 months).
