COVID-19: Farmers promise food security for Nigerians

All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), has said that its members are ready to provide food for about 200 million citizens if the Coronavirus gets worse.
Mr Kabir Ibrahim, National President of AFAN, said in statement on Monday in Abuja that it was frightening to note the extent of effect of Covid-19 presently in Italy.
“All Nigerian farmers are poised and fully awake to address the challenge of providing enough food to feed the nearly 200 million mouths in the nation.
“We are also not unmindful of the likelihood of playing the `big brother’ to all of Africa if the scourge exacerbate,’’ Ibrahim said.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as matter of urgency address the nation on the state of preparedness in case of increase of the pandemic.
The AFAN leader urged Nigerians to adhere to preventive measures continuously advertised by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to avoid infections from coronavirus.
“The spread of the pandemic across the globe is frightening; therefore, every other matter in Nigeria must take a back seat pending control of the coronavirus,’’ Ibrahim said.
He said that government at all levels should reappraise the nation’s food system to avoid inadequacy that could cause disaster.
