COVID 19:Initiative Visits NOMA Children Hospital On A Routine Sensitization Campaign

The members and associates of Maryam Mauro Aminu Waziri Tambuwal legacy initiative were at the NOMA Children’s Hospital Sokoto on its routine advocacy visit and to also sensitize patients on the need to adhere to the laid down guidelines against Covid-19 and also donate sanitary items, face masks , hand sanitizers Nutrition items and other essentials.

According to the public relations officer of the Initiative,Amiru Adamu,the team led by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Social Welfare, Hajiya Hauwa’u Abubakar was received on arrival by Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Shafi’u Isah, who took the team round the wards where they met and interacted with the patients.

In her Goodwill message to the patients, the founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, called on the patients to view their ordeal as a trial from God of no Fault of theirs and adhere strictly to the treatment procedures prescribed by the doctors. She also prayed for the speedy recovery of the patients with emphasis on abiding to the COVID 19 measures to prevent any outbreak from patients and carers with underlining diseases .

The Chief Medical Director later conducted the team round the laboratories explaining the functions of some of the equipments. He also extended the gratitude of the management of the hospital to the wife of the governor, for her unwavering support for the hospital and it’s patients.

The Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative has over the years through her foundation shown an extraordinary concern for people afflicted with NOMA Disease and to her credit on advocacies and strategy , a National day for Noma disease was recently approved of which the first of it was celebrated last year .

It could be recalled that she facilitated the intervention of President of NAOWA and wife of Chief of Army Staff, Hajiya Ummul Khaltum Buratai, who visited the hospital and donated a Genotype Testing machine and palliatives to the patients.

The team also went round to distribute to staff and domestic workers in the hospital with face masks , sanitizers and hygiene materials .

Noma (cancrum oris) is an orofacial gangrene, which during its fulminating course causes progressive and mutilating destruction of the infected tissues. The disease occurs mainly in children with malnutrition, poor oral hygiene and debilitating concurrent illness.

The founder was outraged to realize that COVID 19 essentials were not taken nor were carers and victims sensitized on the pandemic .
