Cricket: ICC seeks partnership with A’Ibom

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is to visit Akwa Ibom soon to seek for partnership as one of the two states that the game of cricket has progressed rapidly in the last few of years.

Coach of the state cricket team, Bassey Odungide disclosed this after leading a delegation including the national team captain, Blessing Etim on a visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Enobong Uwah in his office.

Odungide who also met with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso, disclosed that Akwa Ibom state alone has five cricketers in the national female team, with Blessing Etim as Captain.

He said the International Cricket Council was ready to breath renaissance to Cricket development in the state, and that the choice of Akwa Ibom was a result of the progress recorded in recent times by the state cricket teams.

He disclosed that the state is recognized as one of the two top cricket states in Nigeria, hence the decision of ICC to partner with the State for further development of the game of cricket.

Also speaking, Etim, a development officer, female coach and national female cricket team captain, said she came down to develop female cricket in the state appealed for more involvement of the state in upcoming cricket events in the country.

She said that the International Cricket Council president and some Council members would be present during the cricketing game in the state and lauded Governor Umoh Eno for his support to cricket developement in the state.
