CRISIS LOOMS OVER PAYMENT OF ENTITLEMENT IN CROSS RIVER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

BY JOSEPH ETTA IN CALABAR

There is every like hood of a possible face off between the Executive and
the Legislator in Cross River State.
Cross River State House of Assembly has not reconvened after one month
of recess. The Nigerian Pilot learnt yesterday that this is not unconnected
to lack to lack of funds. Resumption was earlier fixed for September 10 th ,
2019.

In a chat with a member of House of Assembly who pleaded for
anonymity, stated that contending issues are: –

Poor funding by the Executive, the Governor refusal to endorsed request
for a formal meeting with the Legislators. Since after Inauguration, no
take-off grant, no official vehicles available to the members to help them
function effectively and non-payment of their statutory money. According
to my source, no entitlement has been paid to the Legislative since
inauguration last June. Meanwhile the Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade is yet to
constitute the Executive cabinet nor appoint his Legislative awe who would
have been in a better position to shed more light on this when contacted,
the senior special adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Christian
Ita, Promised to get back to the Nigerian Pilot but never did as at the time
of filing this report and also refused to respond to the text message.
