CSOs commend NSCDC for declaring prayer, fasting for polls

Civil society groups, the Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative, CWAI, Peace and Anti-Corruption Advocacy, PAC and Transparency Network Centre, TNC, have commended the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu for declaring a prayer and fasting session towards peaceful 2019 general elections.

In a joint statement signed by the Executive Secretary of CWAI, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, National Coordinator of PAC, Comrade James Okoronkwo and Comrade Farouk Umar, National Coordinator of TNC, and made available to our correspondent, they said that the prayer was scheduled to start from the 13th to 20th December, 2018.

Also as part of its strategy towards the ember month and yuletide period, NSCDC boss had a strategic meeting with State Commandants of the Corps from the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on the way forward to perfect and re-strategies their security apparatus in order to check incessant vandalism of the nation’s critical national assets by criminals across the country.

“It is believed the world over that criminals and hoodlums do strike at period like this especially when people go about their businesses celebrating the reason for the season”

The trio called on all Nigerians at this time to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement of persons or group of people whose activities are capable of derailing the much needed peace and national security of the country as they also enjoined all Nigerians to be at alert and cooperate with security agencies.

They however stated that the security of lives and propertyof Nigerians cannot be left alone in the hands of the agencies, adding that it is a collective responsibility of all and sundry.

The group prayed for the continuous peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religious beliefs, as they also wished Nigerians a successful holiday season ahead.

“It is indeed a noble and patriotic idea that should be emulated by all well-meaning Nigerians including our security agencies as prayers are also required to tackle some of our security challenges in the country.Human efforts alone cannot do it, but requires the assistance from God Almighty to be able to rid the country of criminalities once and for all” they stated.
