CSOs Hail Lagos Govt Over Initiatives To Improve Hospitality, Tourism

Over 70 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have commended the effort by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism to robustly improve the hospitality sector of Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The CSOs praise of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration is coming on the heels of Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture plans to hold an engagement session with tourism stakeholders in the Hospitality Sector on current industry challenges, emerging trends, policy frameworks, and collaborative opportunities within the entire hospitality value chain.

The initiative, targeted at bringing together key players in the hospitality sector including representatives from Hotels, Lounges, Restaurants, Bars, Beaches, Resorts, Event Centres, and Night Clubs for tourism development, underscores the commitment of the Ministry to foster collaboration and drive sustainable growth within the sector.

The Convener of Campaign for Dignity in Governance & Coalition of 70 Civil Society Organizations, Razaq Olokoba speaking to journalists in Abuja heaped praises on the Lagos Government, adding that it was very smart of the government to take advantage of the enormous opportunity in the hospitality industry.

Olokoba describing the hospitality industry as an avenue of untapped resources assured that the sector has what it takes to increase the internally generated revenue in the state.
“Another round of intelligent move by Governor Sanwo-Olu to carry along the people in the hospitality sector. It is good for the sector, it will attract more employment and money in the pockets of Nigerians.

“That’s why we are commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration, We commend the Governor of Lagos State and his cabinet for their unrelenting drive to boost the IGR” He said.

According to a Statement issued by the Commissioner for Tourism Arts and Culture, Lago, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka on Monday, the engagement is slated for Thursday, 30th May 2024 at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites, Victory Island.

Speaking further on the proposed stakeholders’ engagement, the Commissioner said, “This engagement presents a valuable opportunity for us to listen, learn, and collaborate with our esteemed stakeholders.
Together, we can harness the immense potential of our hospitality sector, drive innovation, and create impactful strategies that promote tourism growth while preserving our cultural heritage.

” The event will feature interactive sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to facilitate meaningful exchanges and partnerships.
“Stakeholders are expected to participate actively and contribute their insights towards shaping a vibrant and resilient tourism ecosystem”, Benson-Awoyinka stated.
