Delta Deputy Gov, Onyeme, Calls For More Efforts To Check Drug Abuse

By Anne Azuka

Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme on Tiesday called for strident measures to check drug abuse in the country.

Sir Onyeme made the call when he received on courtesy call, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Barr. John Omotosho Tunde at his office, Government House, Asaba.

According to him, “there is a strong correlation between drug abuse and criminality and once drug abuse is effectively checked, the rate of crime in the society will reduce.”

He noted that Delta is safe for investment as the prevalence of crime is very low in the state and thanked the officials of NDLEA for their proactive measures which have reduced the abuse of drugs.

“I want to specially thank the NDLEA for all that you are doing for humanity and all that you do to reduce the incidence of drug abuse and related crimes in Delta State.

“The work that you do is very important to us because of the relationship between drug abuse and crime.

“Where there is high incidence of drug abuse, the rate of crime is high.

“It is good that the NDLEA has greatly tackled drug abuse in our state but you should not rest on your oars,” Sir Onyeme said.

He assured the NDLEA that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will always partner with the Agency and other Agencies that are working for a better society.

Sir Onyeme said, “I know that you will meet with our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, be rest assured that our administration will partner with you as we will collaborate with any agency, organisation or individual who is working for the good of our people.”

Barr. John, had told the Deputy Governor and those who attended the courtesy call that included the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba, Sir Christopher Osakwe, that they were in his office to intimate him about their activities in the state.
