Delta Governor urges NYSC Corps members to be vanguards of rural development

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Tuesday urged NYSC Corps members deployed to the State to be vanguards of rural development, to brace up to the
challenges of developing the rural areas in order to ensure the furtherance of
the objectives of NYSC in the State.

Oborevwori gave the advice at the Closing Passing Out Parade of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course for members of the National Youths Service Corps deployed to Delta State at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the State.

The governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari further urged them to be part of the development efforts of the State Government.

He noted that his administration was pursuing sustainable development anchored on MORE agenda.

According to the governor, we are committed to the sustenance of peace and security, developing the
abundant human resources in the State and the provision of basic infrastructure.

“As leaders of both today and tomorrow, you are expected to be discreet and objective in your analysis of national events to enable you play the stabilizing roles of bringing about peace, understanding and development in the country.

“You are leaders of today, because the block you mould today will form the foundation of that tomorrow you are looking forward to.

Oborevwori however, appealed to Corps members to be cautious in all their activities, saying “this is a tempting period for most of you as the
urge to embark on adventures, most of which could be either detrimental to your future or pose serious dangers to your lives, is ever present”.

The governor urged them to moderate the ecstasy of youthful exuberance in all their undertakings during the year.

He tasked them to accept the call to national service with a good sense of purpose and transparent patriotism.

“This approach will ensure that you benefit immensely from the programme while the nation in turn, will derive maximum dividends from the services you render during the service year”, Oborevwori stressed.

Earlier, the State Coordinator NYSC Delta, Mr. Alao Olusegun Olaosebikan solicited the cooperation of esteemed Corps Employers in providing an enabling environment for these Corps members to discharge their duties optimally bearing in mind the statutory responsibility of their welfare
packages.

Alao equally, encouraged their employers to shun any form of illegal dealings that negate the lofty ideals of the NYSC.

NYSC Delta Coordinator who expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his support to the Scheme in the State admonished Corps members to be good
ambassadors of their family, the NYSC scheme, and themselves.

“Avoid unnecessary journeys as such could expose you to risks of road accidents”, Alao added.
