Delta Lawmaker Commends Warri/Uvwie Development Agency for Quality Project Execution

By Anne Azuka

The Delta State House of Assembly has commended the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA) for its commitment to quality and high standards in executing development projects.

Hon. Prince Emeka Osamuta, Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on WUEDA, praised the agency during an inspection of completed and ongoing projects in its mandate areas. Osamuta, who represents Ndokwa East Constituency and serves as Deputy Majority Whip, noted that the inspection was part of the Committee’s oversight responsibilities as outlined in the Nigerian Constitution.

The inspection began at WUEDA’s headquarters in Effurun, where Osamuta and other committee members, including Deputy Chairman Hon. Edafe Emakpor (Uvwie), Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe (Patani), Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South 2), and Hon. Frank Esenwah (Oshimili North), reviewed and discussed projects. They were briefed by WUEDA’s Director General, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, who guided them through project sites to assess the agency’s progress.

Osamuta emphasized that the visit allowed committee members to gain firsthand insights into the projects implemented as allocated by the State Assembly. He acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s financial support, which has accelerated project execution, and appreciated the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, for his support of the state government’s More Agenda.

During the visit to the drainage project at Warri Township Stadium, Osamuta expressed optimism that the work would address the area’s long-standing flooding issues. He urged landlords and property developers to avoid obstructing drains, highlighting the severe consequences of such actions.

The oversight visit also allowed committee members to evaluate the challenges faced by WUEDA and its development partners. Osamuta noted that many of these challenges would be addressed in the 2025 state budget. He further called on the people of Warri, Uvwie, and surrounding areas to keep their environment clean and protect government projects from damage.

Director General Prince Godwin Ejinyere reaffirmed WUEDA’s commitment to quality project execution and expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his continued support. Ejinyere also welcomed the partnership with the Assembly, stating that this collaboration would drive the agency’s effectiveness and foster state development.

Committee members Hon. Edafe Emakpor and Hon. Benson Obire expressed appreciation for the agency’s achievements, with Obire specifically commending the governor for the construction of Ope Street in Warri, which he noted had not seen attention in over forty years.

Local resident Comrade Weyemi Agateyiniro, Chairman of Warri South, praised the redevelopment of Warri Stadium, which he believes will enhance the area’s economy. He expressed gratitude to the Delta State House of Assembly for its support of the executive branch’s development efforts.

Among the projects inspected were the Storm Water Project along Airport Road in Effurun, road construction at Sokoh Estate, Egbe Layout, Ope Street, and Diotte Drive, among others.
