The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has assured the management and staff of the State House of Assembly of improved welfare in 2025.
Rt. Hon. Guwor made this promise during an end-of-year event organized for the management and staff of the State Assembly, held at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba, the state capital.
Commending the board, management team, and the entire workers under the auspices of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) for their commitment, Rt. Hon. Guwor emphasized that the State legislature would not have made it this far if its working environment had been marked by violence or discord.
The Speaker expressed gratitude for the unity and support shown by every member of the House in carrying out their duties, promising that more of their needs would be addressed in the coming year. He highlighted that ensuring a happy and conducive working environment would enhance their productivity.
He further disclosed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has promised to renovate the physical infrastructure in the complex, including the clinic, and to implement the Consolidated Salary Structure (CONLESS) for PASAN members in Delta State in 2025.
On capacity building for staff, Rt. Hon. Guwor assured the workers that training and retraining would remain a priority, as knowledge gained would foster development and improve performance within the legislature.
He urged the staff to focus on the future rather than dwell on past challenges, emphasizing a brighter and more productive 2025.
In his Christmas and New Year’s message, the Speaker encouraged the staff to show love and kindness to others, as love is the core message of the season.
The Clerk of the House, Otto Aghoghophia, thanked the Speaker on behalf of the staff for his exemplary leadership style. He expressed the staff’s unwavering support for the Speaker and the leadership of the Assembly. Otto reflected on the positive developments since Rt. Hon. Guwor assumed office and expressed confidence in continued progress in the years ahead.
Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Guwor also commended members of the 8th Assembly for their dedication to their duties.
As the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, the Speaker made these remarks while addressing the press at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba.
He expressed gratitude for the speedy passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, noting that the lawmakers’ dedication demonstrated their commitment to the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
He also disclosed that in 2024, the State legislature passed significant bills and motions aimed at promoting peace, good governance, and sustainable development in the state.
Commending the press for their dedication to disseminating government policies and programs, Rt. Hon. Guwor acknowledged that the House’s activities would have remained obscure without prompt and unbiased reporting, including coverage of plenary sessions, committee sittings, and oversight duties.
Thanking the press for their support, the Speaker called for continued collaboration as partners in progress.
The end-of-year activities were attended by members of the Delta State Assembly Service Commission, led by its Chairman, Mr. Sunday Ebirieri, as well as the Deputy Clerks and management of the Assembly. The event featured free medical care, health talks, aerobics, and games for the staff.
