In a recent interview on Flo 94.9 FM Umuahia, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, encouraged the people of the Southeast to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kalu emphasized the importance of aligning with a party that holds a significant position in the federal government, highlighting that it is impractical for the region to align with minority parties. He emphasized the need to focus on national politics rather than regional divisions.
Kalu, who had actively supported President Bola Tinubu in the South East during the presidential polls, urged politicians from the Southeast affiliated with parties like PDP, APGA, and LP to consider joining the APC. He argued that the Southeast’s political influence at the national level is diluted due to its representation across multiple parties. According to Kalu, being part of a party that controls the federal purse would enhance the region’s lobbying power and ensure a stronger voice in national matters.
He stated, “This is the opportune moment for those who have been indecisive to make the move before it’s too late. By aligning with APC, we can bring forth a leadership that recognizes and values your contributions. We must shift our focus from regional politics to national politics. By strengthening the APC, we can secure more opportunities for Ndigbo and amplify our collective voice on the national stage.”
