Descendants Of Third Sultan Applauds Tambuwal For Restoring Pedigree

By Muhammad Goronyo,Sokoto
The descendants of Sultan Abubakar Atiku  (1782–1842), the third monarch of the Sokoto caliphate, Wednesday paid a thank you visit to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for finding one of them worthy of being appointed as a monarch in the state 89 years after the family held sway in one such capacity.
Alhaji Abdullahi Sarkin Gobir Adiya, who led the family on the thank you visit to the governor at the Presidential Lodge of Government House, Sokoto, said since 1931 when Sultan Muhammad Tambari, the 14th Sultan, was deposed; and 1933 when Sarkin Gobir Adiya left as Sarkin Gobir of Gwadabawa, 89 and 87 years respectively, the family of Sarkin Gobir Adiya never ascended any throne of monarchical relevance in the Caliphate.
He expressed gratitude to Gov. Tambuwal and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar for considering the family of the late Sarkin Gobir Adiya worthy of such exalted position in the Caliphate.
By this action, Abdullahi added, the duo have revived the historical pedigree of the family thereby causing it to be further united.
He expressed profound appreciation to Governor Tambuwal and the Sultan for honouring their families by appointing one of their family member to serve as the first District Head of the newly created Asara District in Gwadabawa local government area of the state.
Responding, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal  said the creation of the new Asara District was based on the decision taken by him and the Sultan in order to revive the historical background of the Asara kingdom.
He charged the new District Head to carry everybody along in the discharge of his new assignment, urging him to be fair and just in every decision affecting his people.
He used the ceremony to charge the new District Head on the need to expedite action on calling people in his domain to seek both Islamic and Western education, explaining that government will continue to respect and assist  the traditonal institutions for them to discharge their duties effectively.
The governor congratulated the New District Head of Asara, Alhaji Musa S. Gobir I  for his well deserved appointment.
