Dont release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally, RUN, Coalition cautions House of Reps

Rising Up for United Nigeria (RUN) and a Coalition of right groups, have separately written to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, (Ph.D.) expressing their strong opposition to the recent call by the Chairman House Ad-hoc Committee interfacing with relevant security agencies to end kidnapping, assassinations and banditry in Abia State for the unconditional release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu

Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, a Biafra secessionist world lord has been extradited into Nigeria and is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony, sponsoring violence, illegal broadcast and other crimes against the Nigerian State.

In the protest letters signed by Solomon Adodo, Convener, Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN) and Comrade Danesi Momoh and others for the Coalition, sighted by our correspondent over the weekend in Abuja, the groups insisted that the House of Representatives has no jurisdiction over Nnamdi Kanu’s matter as the case is already in court.

The letters read in part, “at a recent Public Hearing, Hon. Obinna Aguocha, Chairman House of Representatives ad hoc Committee Working with Security Agencies to end criminal activities in Umunneochi and Isuikwuato Local Government Areas of Abia State, called for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the panacea for achieving peace in the Southeast and addressing insecurity. While we are all committed to achieving lasting peace in the South-East and elsewhere, the House of Representatives must abide by established rules and avoid interference in court processes. We therefore urge you to halt it”.

The groups pointed out that even the efforts made by Mr. Nnamdi Kanu in canvassing for an end to the weekly forced sit-at-home order remains questionable as he has already started advancing another retrogressive programme to replace it. Taking that as end to rebellion and criminality is deceptive.

“Let us not be deceived about Kanu’s attempt to end sit-at-home in the South-East. The Economic Empowerment Days he is proposing as a replacement is actually deadly and must not be allowed to stand. Unfortunately, calls like the one made by Hon. Aguocha could embolden criminal elements and could be seen as an infringement on the courts. We therefore urge you to steer the hallowed House of Representatives away from interference in a matter before the court”, the statement added.

The CSOs reiterated its commitment to the revered office of the Speaker, House of Representatives in and Nigeria at large in pursuit of a united, peaceful and progressive Nigeria of our dreams and hope.
