Dr Austin Maho: Profile of a journalist and a teacher

Dr. Austin Maho is a distinguished figure in the field of media and journalism, renowned for his multifaceted career and significant contributions to the Nigerian media landscape. Born on September101970, his journey through the realms of journalism, education, and media analysis has left an indelible mark.

Dr. Maho began his career in the old Daily Times where he cut his teeth as a journalist. He rose to the position of the head of the northern bureau of the paper before its privitisation by government in 2000.

It is from there he went on to establish, Metrospring Newspaper which was in the newsstand between 2010 till 2012 before it went to sleep for lack of funding. His love for the media and persistence saw to the birth of Daybreak Newspaper in September 2018. However before then he was the Editor of the Nigerian Pilot newspaper between 2017 to 2018 and also the business developmwnt editor of the Daily Independent newspaper from 2012 to 2013.

Through these platforms, he not only disseminated information to the masses but also played a pivotal role in shaping public discourse in Nigeria.

His expertise in media analysis shone brightly when he assumed the role of Media Analyst on “Kakaaki,” a prominent program aired on African Independent Television (AIT). With his insightful commentary and in-depth analysis, Dr. Maho offered viewers a deeper understanding of current events and their societal implications. He also serves as media analyst with Arise television.

Dr. Maho’s passion for knowledge and dedication to nurturing the next generation of journalists and media professionals led him to the academic arena. He served as a Lecturer at the University of Abuja, where he imparted his wealth of knowledge and experience to eager students, the same institutions he obtained his doctoral degree in media in 2016.

Furthermore, his commitment to media education extended to the International Institute of Journalism in Abuja, where he continued to educate and inspire aspiring journalists.

Not content with just traditional academia, Dr. Maho also served as a facilitator at the National Open University of Nigeria, where he made education more accessible to a broader audience.

Throughout his career, Dr. Maho’s contributions to the field of media have been recognized far and wide.
