Drugs Worth 1,000kg Arrested By Sokoto NDLEA In the Last Two Months – Iro

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

…..more than 10 persons awaiting convictions.

Speaking to newsmen in his office, the Sokoto Commandant of the NDLEA, Iro A. Muhammad said. most of the drugs being used in Sokoto state are not produced in sokoto but ferried into the state through the roads despite the fact that there is an International Airport, the reason for establishing check points to checkmate importation.

He said the Command is making efforts to block all the linkages used  by importers.

He lamented that in the last 2 months significant arrest have been made. A dealer with dangerous drugs from Lagos was arrested with large quantity of drugs and another from Shagari with Cordine and an Ibo man with 458kg of Radinol and is already in the custody.

He further said a popular cripple around Rano area filling Station was arrested in connection with drugs dealing, thereby calling on the people of the area to report any suspected dealer within the area for legal actions.

Similarly, again within those two months, they arrested a total of more than 1000kg of various drugs which serves as reduction consumption in the state to bearest minimum.

He discussed the joint operation as an ongoing process and as well advised people in the state to report areas where dealers and consumers operate for legal actions.

During screening and before being employed one swore never to reveal the source.

“Just within the last three days, more than 50kg of Cordine amounting to millions of naira was dumped into dustbin.

Speaking on what hampers their full operation, he sad their major challenges in the command is logistics despite the little amount the state government is offering, operational vehicles and dilapidated rehabilitation center unlike the some states like Kebbi.

Presently, there is an urgent need to disburse the drugs arrested as their stores are over loaded.

Relatively, they had written waiting for permission from the state government to disburse over 20 tonnes.

“For his concern, the governor Tambuwal created a Drug Control Committee that had already commenced meetings on how to curtail drugs abuse in the state as consumption is very scary” .

Women, students are very much into it, that calls for parents to educate their children and monitor their movements as well on the dangers of drugs abuse.
