Economic hardship: Tinubu pledges to protect worst-hit Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s commitment to implementing safety measures aimed at protecting Nigerians most affected by recent economic reforms.

Speaking at the seventh Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the importance of social investment programs in mitigating the impact of subsidy removal and other economic adjustments. He highlighted the recent resumption of these programs, ensuring equitable distribution of relief to vulnerable segments of society.

Tinubu defended the decision to discontinue subsidies on petrol, citing the need to redirect funds towards infrastructure development and energy security. Despite initial challenges, he remained optimistic about Nigeria’s economic recovery trajectory.

Acknowledging the immediate hardships faced by citizens, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to social interventions to alleviate the burden of subsidy removal, emphasizing equitable distribution of relief.

As Nigeria transitions towards cleaner energy sources, Tinubu underscored the importance of innovation and collaboration to facilitate a seamless transition while ensuring inclusivity.

The ongoing Nigeria International Energy Summit convenes stakeholders to deliberate on accelerating energy security, transition, and finance, with over 6000 delegates, exhibitors, and visitors in attendance. Key figures in the energy sector, including government officials and industry leaders, are expected to chart a sustainable path forward during the summit.
