Education Minister Praises NTI’s Digital Push for Teacher Training

The Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Alausa, has commended the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, for taking proactive steps to enhance teacher training in Nigeria. He applauded NTI’s efforts toward embracing digital transformation, highlighting its commitment to improving educational standards.

Represented by Dr. Iyabode Ali, Deputy Director of Colleges of Education, Dr. Alausa made these remarks on Tuesday during the NTI’s 2nd Annual National Conference in Kaduna. This year’s conference, which runs for four days, is themed “E-facilitation Delivery System in Nigerian Schools: Prospects, Challenges and Way Forward.”

“I commend NTI’s leadership for their dedication to building a teacher workforce that is resilient, resourceful, and ready to inspire Nigeria’s future generation,” Alausa said. He emphasized that the conference’s theme is highly relevant, stressing the importance of aligning the education system with technological advancements to enhance learning outcomes nationwide.

The Minister also noted that integrating digital tools into classrooms prepares young Nigerians for an increasingly digital world. He highlighted the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through policies that ensure access, quality, and innovation at all levels.

In his welcome address, NTI Director-General Prof. Musa Garba-Maitafsir shared the Institute’s progress toward digital education through blended learning, e-supervision, and preparations for online examinations. He acknowledged NTI’s evolution from a primarily administrative body to a digital institute aiming to meet global standards.

Representing Kaduna State’s Governor Uba Sani, Hajiya Adama Wada praised NTI’s innovative approach and credited Garba-Maitafsir for driving the digital transformation within the institute.

Keynote speaker Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, emphasized the necessity of technology in modern education, stating, “In this digital era, integrating technology is not optional but mandatory.” He highlighted the benefits of e-facilitation, including cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and inclusivity, urging NTI to develop policies that make digital learning more accessible and adaptive.

The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu-Bamalli, represented by Alhaji Jibril Magaji, noted the importance of digital access for students while acknowledging challenges such as power outages and low literacy rates. Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, represented by Alhaji Sagir Musa, announced that the Jigawa State government has also embraced e-facilitation to advance educational goals.
