El-Rufai Must Return Every Kobo Allegedly Looted – Shehu Sani

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, , has said that any money allegedly taken illegally from Kaduna State coffers by the immediate past governor, , must be returned.

Sani, a human rights activist, made the declaration while briefing journalists in Kaduna over the weekend.

“I can fully assure you that we will do everything possible to see that, as far as we are concerned, every kobo that has been looted from Kaduna State is returned,” he said.

The former lawmaker alleged that a $350 million loan reportedly collected during El-Rufai’s administration was looted, claiming that only a few projects were executed in Kaduna North Local Government Area despite the borrowing. He further alleged that the state became one of the most indebted in the country during that period.

Sani described El-Rufai’s years in office as challenging for many citizens, alleging that the administration was marked by abuse of the rule of law and governance excesses.

“And we will also make sure that whoever’s right has been violated in the name of governance and abuse of power in the state, this right will be restored and fought for,” he added.

The former senator also expressed confidence in the political prospects of Kaduna State Governor and President ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“For those of us in Kaduna State, we are sending a clear message that we will work tirelessly to see to the re-election of Uba Sani as Governor of Kaduna State. And we will also work tirelessly to see to the re-election of Bola Tinubu as President of Nigeria in 2027,” he said.

He, however, noted that voters remain free to support candidates of their choice but added that he has not seen a credible alternative at the moment.

Sani further called on political parties to respect the principles of zoning and rotation of power in 2027, arguing that it would be fair to allow the presidency to remain in Southern Nigeria following the eight-year tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
