Electronic Transmission Of Votes: An Appeal To National Assembly To Do The Right Thing – Tambuwal

By Muhammad Goronyo, Sokoto

Tambuwal who spoke in the capacity of former Speaker of the House of Representatives added his voice in making the appeal to the sitting members of the National Assembly.

Addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Center, Tambuwal with firm belief said it is in the national interest to bequeath to Nigeria an Electoral Act that will contribute to free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria irrespective of party platform.

“We have seen many times where a person may be in the ruling party and in the opposition party tomorrow. We also experienced a situation where party leaders would want to frustrate the reelection of a sitting member of the National Assembly or indeed any other contestant should be his performance and appeal not the dictates of any godfather either as governor, President, Leaders or stakeholders”.

He said it is a credible, free and fair election that will ensure that the voters decide any electoral contest, citing example with Edo and Ondo States elections where electronic transmission of votes cast from the unit level ensured that the wishes were respected.

He similarly added that INEC has demonstrated and assured that it has the technology to transmit cotes electronically even ‘without the internet’. It has also assured that with the new technology, any interested Nigerian could track or monitor the results of the election from his or her house.

” My intervention is not a partisan one, it must be seen as a contribution from someone who has had varied experiences as a legislator, a former Speaker, a sitting Governor and one who has been involved in leadership of political parties”.
