The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, is set to install his first son, Aminu Sanusi Lamido, as the Ciroman Kano on November 25, 2024. Aminu Sanusi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), will assume the prestigious title, which holds both cultural and political significance in the Kano Emirate.
The Ciroman Kano title is traditionally given to the crown prince or heir apparent, signifying direct lineage within the Emirate. Along with the title comes the responsibility of overseeing certain districts. Historically, prominent members of the royal family have held this position. The Emir’s father, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, was the last to hold the title until his passing in the 1990s. The most recent holder of the title, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, became the Emir of Bichi in 2020.
In addition to the installation of the Emir’s son, nine other individuals will be honored with traditional titles during the ceremony. These include:
– Mahmud Aminu Yusufu as Mai Unguwar Mundubawa
– Dr. Abubakar Sanusi Usman Shehu II as Dan Galadiman Kano
– Alhaji Abubakar Aminu Sanusi (Wambai) as Dan Madami
– Arch. Ali Muktar as Sa’in Kano
– Sarki Yusuf Bayero ‘Yan Daka as Sarkin Daka
– Abdullahi Idris Bayero as Fagacin Kano
– Ado Abdullahi Aminu as Kaigaman Kano
– Idris Sanusi as Sarkin Sullubawa
– Mansur Isa Bayero as Sarkin Kudu
– Abdullahi Sarki Mohammed as Sarkin Yamma
The turbaning of the Ciroman Kano is seen as a significant moment for the future leadership of the Kano Emirate.
