#EndSARS: Ghana’s president confirms he spoke with Buhari, assures Nigerians of dialogue

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has called for dialogue between the Nigerian government and #EndSARS protesters.

He warned that violence was not the solution to the crisis arising from protests against police brutality and bad governance in Nigeria.

Akufo-Addo said he had spoken with his Nigerian counterpart, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Ghanaian president noted that Buhari is committed to dialogue.

He tweeted, “I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform.

“Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Buildings were torched in Lagos on Wednesday following the shooting of peaceful protesters by security forces.

Peaceful protesters had gathered despite a curfew imposed to end spiralling protests over police brutality and deep-rooted social grievances at Lekki toll gate before they were shot on Tuesday.
