Enugu government relaunches manhunt for eight IPOB members

By Ogenyi Ogenyi

Enugu State government said it has relaunched a manhunt on eight leaders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) over alleged involvements in illegal protests, kidnapping and other forms of civil unrest in the state and other South Eastern parts of Nigeria.

Governor Peter Mbah disclosed this during the inauguration of a well equipped Neighbourhood Watch Security outfit aimed to clampdown on the activities of the IPOB and strengthen the security architecture of the state.

Mbah mentioned the names of the wanted persons to include: Mr Sunday Obodo, Mr Destiny Okoye, Mr Chukwura Okey and Mr Emeka Onu.

Others were Mr Friday Egwu, Orji Ndu, Steven Madu, and Mr Buchi Eze.

He recalled that the suspects had being in the wanted list of the state government since 2012 for alleged kidnapping adding that the gang now were said to be the sponsors of some IPOB activities which have caused security breaches in the State.

He stressed that the present government would not spare any resources to ensure that the suspects were apprehended and brought to book even as he called on the security agencies as well as Nigerians to come up with useful information on their whereabouts to serve as a deterrent to those who may want to follow that path.

Mbah further stressed that government has not relaxed its mission to capture the sponsors of the protest in the state who have gone underground.

His words, “as we inaugurate this security outfit, members of the public should note that the under-listed names of IPOB members, tagged as strong leaders of the group are still in the wanted list of government over the years. They were said to be sponsors of most of the bloody protests in the state. They include: Sunday Obodo, Destiny Okoye, Chukwura Okey, Emeka Onu, Friday Egwu, Orji Ndu, Steven Madu, Buchi Eze.

“Anyone who has useful information or knows their whereabout should notify the nearest security agency such as Army, police, DSS etc.”
