ew technologies to assist second CIIE

By Tian Hong from People’s Daily

The second China International Import Expo (CIIE) is scheduled to kick off soon, and a batch of new technologies, such as 5G, interpreting machines, and patrol robots are about to join the event for better experiences of the visitors.

5G tried it out at last year’s CIIE, and this time, the technology will be applied to every aspect of the grand event.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the venue of the second CIIE – National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), as well as its perimeter, have all been covered by 5G network. The commission said 4 major 5G scenarios and 17 projects of 5G application will be built for the event and the technology will contribute to all aspects of the CIIE.

Interpreting machines to offer translation service in 12 languages

The communication between business people coming from different parts of the world is a tricky problem. According to China International Import Expo Bureau, a total of 1,061 appointments for interpreters have been made by participating merchants this year, up nearly 20 percent from a year ago.

To cope with such a huge demand, the second CIIE has placed interpreting machines at 83 consulting stations. All the merchants have to do is to follow the instruction and make a call, and consecutive interpreting in 12 languages will be available. Volunteers will also guide the merchants to use the service. It is a guarantee for multilingual consulting, guidance and business negotiation.

These big-eyed passionate robots can not only answer your questions, but also crack a joke. The 20 newly deployed “Jinbao” robots will definitely become a highlight at the CIIE venue this year. They are stationed at the four entrances of the venue, VIP lounge, and highly crowded places, broadcasting information and providing searching service. Besides, they can also recognize the users and greet them, and answer the latter’s questions about floor plan, activities, and transportation

Deals are the final goals of the expo. This year, three-day supply-demand matchmaking conferences have been scheduled. So far, it has attracted thousands of Chinese and foreign enterprises in all seven exhibition sectors from nearly 90 countries and regions.

The second CIIE for the first time introduces self-service terminals to the supply-demand matchmaking conferences where participating enterprises can check schedules and desired cooperation partners, and sign deals of intent.

To facilitate those domestic enterprises that cannot make it to the venue, the organizers of the second CIIE has specifically built a special zone for remote video meetings. The video calls will enable the foreign merchants to get in touch and negotiate with their potential Chinese partners in 8 cities.
