Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Mourns Senator Jonathan Zwingina

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, expressed his sadness on Friday over the demise of Distinguished Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina.

In a release signed by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the former governor stated that he received the news of Senator Zwingina’s passing with great shock.

“Senator Zwingina, who served as the Chairman of the Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Council during the buildup to the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was a man of impeccable character,” Bello said.

The former governor noted that for those who had worked closely with the late senator, it was evident that he led a life of self-discipline, integrity, and exemplary patriotism.

It is worth recalling that Senator Zwingina was the Director-General of the MKO Abiola Campaign Organisation during the historic June 12, 1993 election.

“As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who represented the Adamawa South Senatorial District and a former Senate Majority Leader, he was outstanding in his contributions on the floor of the Senate toward the promotion of growth-oriented policies and good governance,” Bello added.

“Senator Zwingina’s contributions to the democratic development of Nigeria from the 1980s to the present day will remain indelible in the annals of Nigeria’s history.

“Nigeria has lost a rare political and academic gem. I wish his immediate family, the government and people of Adamawa State, and all of us who cherished his sacrifices for this nation, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the former governor concluded.
