Expedites Work On Ganaja Roads, Hardship Unbearable In Kogi – NUJ Tells FG

The Kogi state Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Over the weekend in Lokoja called on the Federal government to expedite action on the 7.5km Ganaja junction – Ganaja village road before the rainy season.

The call which was contained in a communique issued at the end of the Congress held at the NUJ press Centre, Lokoja on Saturday said the hardship being experience by motorists plying the road is unbearable coupled with the low pace of the ongoing construction work.

The Union appealed to contractors handling the construction work on this Ganaja roads to expedite action so as to complete the job before the rainy season set in.

Congress also called on the state government to execute the construction of Wada road via Ganaja – Otokiti by-pass to ease the heavy traffic of motorists from the Zango metropolis to the main town.

The Congress applauded the state government for the award of infrastructural projects across the state, and called on the Ministry of Works to organized an inter-face with journalists (as a matter of urgency) to give a breakdown of all ongoing projects in the state.

Congress also eulogized the State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abubakar Ohere for the donation of dozens of chairs to the union.

The Congress applauded the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kolawole Matthew for his contributions, donations and supports to the union; especially the proposed
chalet extension, which he has agreed to build for the union.

The Union commended the state government for the Ganaja junction fly-Over project and called for the provision of an alternatives routes before the commencement of the work to avert suffering of motorists during the project execution.

On the insecurity state of the Nation, the Congres urged state government to sustain her efforts in securing the lives and property of residents of the state both on the
highways and residential areas.

“Congress identified lack of revenue base as one of the major problems affecting the smooth running of the union. Congress called on members to come up with ideas that will enhance the revenue generation of the union.”

Members from the eight Chapels of the Union therefore “frowned at the misinterpretation of some members of executive arms/political class whenever suggestions are made on issues that affects the lives of the citizens.”
