Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, has expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing unreliability of power supply affecting nine Northern States, particularly as Kano State faces another blackout due to a collapse of the national grid.
In a press release issued by his spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Falgore highlighted the significant socio-economic repercussions of these recurrent power outages. He stressed the urgent need for authorities to address the issue promptly to mitigate its adverse effects on businesses and daily life across the region.
Falgore underscored the importance of exploring alternative energy sources to alleviate the pressure on the national grid. He suggested that renewable energy solutions, such as solar and wind power, could operate independently and provide a sustainable answer to the challenges posed by frequent power failures.
Additionally, he called on the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders to take immediate action to enhance the stability of the power system. Falgore proposed that the Federal Government consider constitutional amendments to empower state governments to generate and transmit electricity independently.
He also urged authorities to expedite repairs on vandalized facilities to restore power supply to the affected states, emphasizing the critical importance of addressing this ongoing issue without delay.
