Falgore Urges Judiciary to Safeguard Nigeria’s Democracy

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano

The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, has expressed grave concerns over attempts by some individuals to undermine Nigeria’s democracy through questionable court rulings on political matters.

In a press statement signed by his spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, and delivered by his Special Advisor on Special Duties, Dr. Idris Salisu Rogo, Falgore highlighted the growing trend of exploiting the judiciary to challenge the integrity of democratic institutions. He described these actions as a threat to the nation’s democratic foundations.

Dr. Rogo called on the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, to uphold justice and democratic principles in their rulings, ensuring they reflect the collective interests of Nigerians, irrespective of background. He emphasized that democracy could be compromised if these alarming trends are not addressed promptly.

“We must work together to protect our democratic system from being derailed by corrupt and discredited politicians,” Dr. Rogo stated. He stressed the importance of good governance and proper representation as core tenets of democracy.

The Speaker also commended the former Governor of Kano State, Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his commitment to empowering the youth through scholarships and his contributions to state and national development. Falgore praised Kwankwaso’s patriotism and resilience in addressing critical developmental challenges, which he noted were aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

The Speaker concluded by urging citizens to unite in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring its principles remain intact for future generations.
