FCT Natives Forum say no to protests

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The original indigenous of the Federal Capital Territory, under the umbrella of the FCT Natives Forum have vehemently reacted to the proposed nationwide hunger protest and said no to protests.

In a press briefing organized by , Dr. Lazarus Zaka Gaza, a stakeholder, he warned that the protests championed by some unscrupulous elements, may turn violent. There’s no need to protest against the Federal Government that is barely a year old, he said.

The FCT Natives forum said, “The administration inherited a bad situation that is not easy to fix in one day. It’s easy to destroy but difficult to rebuild. We are currently at the stage of rebuilding the country, especially the economy.”

“We must sacrifice protest in favour of dialogue, as it is a dynamic process with a high chance of improvement. We should therefore support the Federal Government, and the FCT Minister Barrister Wike Nyeson to continue with the good work they are doing.”

“Corrections of mistakes would be done where necessary because it is a process. That is the beauty of Democracy.”

Addressing journalists yesterday Dr. Lazarus Zaka Gaza, who was the first elected member of House of Representative in the aborted Third Republic, for AMAC / Bwari Federal Constituency, and presently the Chairman Governing Council, FCE Technical, Gombe,
hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the FCT Minister for the good work in progress.

Meanwhile, the Minister, Special Duties Hon. Zaphaniya Jisalo, has urged the Nigerian youths to embrace dialogue rather than embark on the protest which could have undesirable outcomes.

“Therefore, while you are thinking of protesting, the government is appealing to you to first shelve it because there is a likelihood that this protest may be hijacked by unscrupulous elements and may turn violent”, Jisalo said.

Similarly, Lawrence Bitrus Garki, Mandate Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, said that there is no longer a need for protest as the Federal government is already addressing the demands made by aggrieved Nigerians.

“Many of the issues that those planning the protest are putting forward are being addressed.”

The government is putting efforts to make sure that food is made available, Garki noted.
