The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the arrest of 15 individuals in connection with the vandalism of a warehouse owned by the Federal Capital Development Authority in Abuja.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, two security guards employed by the warehouse management were among the suspects apprehended over the incident that occurred in the Tasha area of Abuja.
Adeh disclosed that the police recovered 26 bags of maize, five motorcycles, and several vandalized aluminum roofing sheets from the suspects.
“The police command in the FCT is fully informed about the impulsive attack on the Agric Department Strategic food store located at Tasha area of Abuja, on March 3. The attack has resulted in the vandalism and looting of the warehouse. The command wishes to state that normalcy has since been restored to the area and the situation, under control,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCTA has also confirmed the looting of its warehouse in Dei-Dei by residents in the FCT due to economic hardships.
Zakari Aliyu, the spokesperson for the ARD Secretariat, revealed that the Secretary had visited the looted warehouse where residents had emptied the store and vandalized the property, including removing the roofs and windows.
Aliyu assured that more detailed information regarding the incident would be provided after a subsequent visit by the Secretary and the Minister of State to the affected area.
