The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested two individuals, identified as Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, for their involvement in an attempted child trafficking scheme. The police operatives intercepted the suspects at the Kagini Junction in Abuja while they were transporting five minors into the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest took place on April 27, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. The suspects were apprehended after attempting to evade capture by Sokoto Police operatives, but were eventually intercepted by FCT officers.
The rescued children, aged between six and 12 years old, have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and to facilitate their reunification with their families.
Commissioner of Police Benneth C. Igweh emphasized the command’s collaboration with authorities in Sokoto State to ensure the safe return of the children to their homes. He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
CP Igweh reaffirmed the FCT command’s dedication to combating child trafficking and other criminal activities in the territory, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly children.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges in court following the conclusion of investigations. The FCT command urged residents to remain vigilant and assured the public of continued diligent efforts by law enforcement to maintain safety and security in the region.
