The FCT Minister Barr. Nysome Wike has hinted that the administration is working towards regulating the FCT Transport sector to ensure the safety of commuters and curb insecurity in the nation’s capital.
Wike revealed this on Friday after inspecting the Kugbo and Mabushi Bus Terminals and EFCC Academy road at Giri, Gwagwalada.
Speaking on the reason for the bus terminals, the minister explained that it is to regulate the transport sector by taking such security measures.
He said, ” Obviously, plenty of things will happen in the transport sector, there will be a lot of reforms. In fact, the committee is working, before we get to even commissioning, we’ll come up with our transport sector reforms.”
The minister stated that the transport reform policy is part of security measures which involves taxi business and taxi colour for safety of those who board taxis.
“As part of security measures, we must know those who are involved in doing their taxi business, and what colour, so that if anything happens, we’ll be able to identify.”
The minister further noted that with the regulated bus terminals, there is no need to have many parks on the road.
“This time around, we are working to see that we don’t have many parks on the roads, what should be here is a bus and taxis, not only bus terminals. So those who come to the bus terminals will board the taxis from there and go wherever they want to go.”
Meanwhile, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing his friend Barr. Nysome Wike as the FCT Minister and the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration .
Ortom commended Mr. President for lifting the country back to its feet, from its lowest state before his administration.
