FCTA urged To Include Okada, Keke Commercial Transportation Sector Into Tax System

As a way of harmonizing taxation drive, the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA, has been urged to include the informal transportation, the commercial motorcyclists, known as Okada and tricycles popularly called Keke NAPEP into its taxation system.

The Executive Secretary of the FCT Joint Tax Board, Mrs Obomegbite Nana- Aisha made this call on Monday during a Town hall meeting on Tax harmonization Drive in FCT with the theme, “Shaping our Future” , organized by the FCT- FIRS .

Nana- Aisha noted that the informal transportation sector is a source of security concern.

She also noted that the motorcycles and tricycles are used in criminal activities like in executing Kuje jailbreak necessitating the need abd time to regulate the transport sector.

The Chairman FCT council of chiefs and the Ona of Abaji, His Royal Majesty, Adamu Baba Yunusa, represented Sheriki Gabas, AIhaji Kamal Adamu-Garba, speaking in the new tax move called for transparency and truthfulness in the arrangements of the FCT tax harmonisation.

Adamu-Garba also urged the Administration to collapse all revenue generating agencies into a harmonized structure.

The FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adesola Olusade, assured transparency, in transmitting all of it revenue generating agencies into the harmonisation, adding that all Area Councils should believe in the new tax move.
Meanwhile, Adesola noted that the new revenue collection harmonization is to woo both local and foreign investors to the Territory.

According to the Chairman of FCT-IRS, Haruna Abdullahi disclosed that the processes of the harmonization were duly backed by extant laws and regulations.

Abdullahi noted that the new harmonization move is to increase revenue generation and to enshrine transparency and accountability in the systems.

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service Act entrusts us, the FCT-IRS, with the duty to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and agencies in harmonizing and improving our tax practices, he emphasized.
