…as SGF receives award for promoting climate change initiative
By Francis Wilfred
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, has reaffirmed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains committed to partnering with credible private sector players in building a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, following the SGF’s recognition by the African Business Ventures and Investment Group (ABVIG) for his exemplary role in promoting private sector collaboration with government on climate change initiatives and infrastructure development across Africa.
Receiving the award in Abuja, the SGF—represented by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs and Bilateral Relations, Okokon Okon Etoabasi—described the honour as a recognition of the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development, climate resilience, and green investment under the visionary leadership of President Tinubu.
Sen. Akume noted that the Federal Government has created an enabling policy and institutional framework for effective climate action through the Federal Ministry of Environment, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and other relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). These institutions, he said, are driving initiatives that promote adaptation, mitigation, green growth, and sustainable infrastructure development.
He commended ABVIG for its efforts in fostering dialogue and partnership through the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit (AICIS), which aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to mobilizing private sector participation, technological innovation, and investment in sustainable development.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABVIG, Hon. Moses Owharo, expressed appreciation to the SGF for his active participation and technical support during the successful hosting of the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change & Investment Summit 2025 (AICIS) in Abuja.
Owharo emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with key government institutions such as the Federal Ministry of Environment, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and other stakeholders in combating climate change. He also acknowledged the contributions of the NMDPRA, NUPRC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and several private organizations in ensuring the success of AICIS 2025.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office (PEAO), Engr. Nadungu Gagare, the SGF’s representative Okon Etoabasi, and several staff of the Office of the SGF for their contributions to the success of the summit.
