The Nigerian government, through the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has officially launched the National Single Window (NSW) project aimed at streamlining trade processes across the country.
During the launch, Minister Edun highlighted the significant impact the National Single Window is expected to have on Nigeria’s trade facilitation efforts. He noted that this project is a crucial component of the federal government’s strategy to improve trade and customs procedures, minimize delays, and enhance transparency within the trade sector.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), led by its chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, along with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, have been appointed as the implementing agencies responsible for overseeing the project’s successful execution and financial management. The project’s secretariat will be based within the FIRS, serving as the central coordination and oversight hub, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance released on Wednesday.
Key stakeholders from various government bodies, including the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), are actively involved in the project. Their collaboration is deemed essential for the successful rollout of the National Single Window, which is a vital element of President Tinubu’s broader economic reform agenda.
The ongoing three-day workshop, set to conclude on Thursday, will result in a detailed action plan that will outline the next steps for the project and the timeline for its full implementation.
