A fire outbreak in Megida Onikahun compound, Edun Isale, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, has left approximately 120 people homeless, destroying 44 rooms and a mosque on Monday. The fire, which originated from a refuse dump in the morning, lasted for more than an hour before the Kwara State Fire Service managed to extinguish it.

Four elderly individuals were rescued from the affected house by good Samaritans. Despite the destruction, there were no reported injuries. The Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, stated that the firefighters responded to the incident around 11:08 am.

Adekunle explained, ‘Investigation revealed that an unknown person had ignited refuse, initially mistaken for harmless smoke. Unfortunately, it had spread to the nearby compound, lamenting that the incident left over 120 occupants homeless, affecting 44 rooms and a mosque in the 75-room Magaji Onikanhun Compound. Fortunately, there were no casualties.’

He further conveyed condolences to the affected residents and emphasized the importance of public safety during the dry season. Adekunle urged people to promptly call the fire brigade in case of any fire emergency.”
