In a series of unfortunate events, late Wednesday night and in the early hours of Thursday, destructive fires struck two different locations in Lagos State, resulting in significant property damage. The affected areas included Hotel Ibis Royale on Airport Road and the 7&8 Bus Stop in Ajao Estate, Isolo, as well as Oja Oba Moruf International Market in the Ejigbo area.
Remarkably, no loss of life was reported in these fire incidents. The prompt response of the Isolo and Bolade Fire Crew from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service played a crucial role in containing the blaze, which had originated from an open bar before threatening to engulf the adjacent top floor of the two-story building.
Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed these incidents. She stated, “The fire was reported at 16:50 hours on Wednesday, and a two-story building consisting of 46 rooms was successfully safeguarded from extensive damage.”
Additionally, Adeseye reported that Oja Oba Moruf International Market, situated on Ejigbo Road in Iyana Ejigbo, was engulfed in flames at 04:06 in the early hours of Thursday. Responding swiftly, the Ejigbo Fire Station crew managed to extinguish the fire, which primarily affected five lock-up shops out of eight, resulting in the destruction of merchandise estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Adeseye assured the public that both rescue operations had been effectively concluded with no reported casualties.
