Flood: Gov Zulum Approves Additional 4 Weeks for Disbursement Committee

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has approved an additional four weeks for the “Borno State Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee” to continue managing the distribution of relief funds to flood victims. This decision comes in response to the devastating floods that have affected Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, and several local government areas, leading to the loss of lives, damage to property, and significant disruption of livelihoods.

The Secretary to the Borno State Government (SSG), Mallam Bukar Tijani, conveyed the governor’s approval in a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri. The statement, released by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman, highlighted that while the committee was originally scheduled to conclude its activities this week, the extension will allow for a more comprehensive assessment of the affected individuals and ensure that all victims receive aid.

Tijani explained that the disbursement committee had submitted an interim report, which showed that a significant portion of its responsibilities had already been fulfilled. However, Governor Zulum directed the committee to continue its work for an additional four weeks to complete the disbursement and ensure that all those impacted by the flood receive the necessary relief.

“The Governor has received the interim report and directed that the Committee continue for another four weeks to complete the disbursement and assessment,” Tijani stated.
