FOCAC: Chinese Ambassador vows to actualize agreements from Tinubu’s visit to Beijing

China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has pledged to actualize all agreements signed during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Beijing, China.

This commitment was made during a news conference held on Friday in Abuja, where the ambassador discussed the outcomes of Tinubu’s participation in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in China.

Ambassador Yu emphasized his active role, along with various sectors, in ensuring that the agreements translate into tangible projects. He highlighted that 13 cooperation documents were signed during the visit, encompassing diverse areas such as high-quality Belt and Road cooperation planning, the Global Development Initiative, economic growth, and human resources development.

The ambassador noted that these agreements also cover applying the Beidou Satellite Navigation System, exporting peanuts to China, and media exchanges.

“Among them, one bilateral cooperation document outlines around 19 projects that China and Nigeria are cooperating on or intend to cooperate on.

“Additionally, multiple cooperation agreements were established between relevant government departments, state governments, and Chinese companies during President Tinubu’s visit, reflecting the robust partnership between the two nations,” Yu said.

The Envoy expressed optimism about the bright prospects of China-Nigeria cooperation, Emphasizing

the importance of diligently following through with the signed agreements.

Charles Onunaiju, Director of the Centre for China Studies in Nigeria, reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging institutional mechanisms to oversee the sustainable implementation of these agreements.

He pointed out the establishment of the newly formed Office of the President on Policy Coordination, which will be responsible for ensuring accountability and tracking progress on executing the signed deals.
