Victor Abayomi, a chef who worked for former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has been remanded in custody by the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Abayomi is accused of stealing valuable items worth millions of naira from Ambode’s Ikoyi residence.
Chief Magistrate Peter Nwaka ordered Abayomi to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for 30 days, following charges of conspiracy and theft brought against him by the State Security Service.
The prosecution, led by Joshua Babalola, alleged that Abayomi and others, who are currently at large, conspired to commit the offences at the former governor’s residence. It is claimed that Abayomi absconded to Old Garage in Osun State, where he was apprehended on March 7, 2024.
The charges against Abayomi contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Nwaka adjourned the case until April 8, 2024, for further investigation and the presentation of evidence.
