Freshly-groomed dog left ‘looking like Smurf’ after biting into ink cartridge

A dog owner was forced to return her pet to the groomers just a day after her previous appointment when the bichon frise’s daring bin raid went hilariously wrong.

Seven-year-old dog Rosie’s white fur was looking immaculate after she was treated to a £40 cut and blow dry by her owner Tracey Collin.

But the following day while Tracey was sat relaxing in the living room, Rosie seized her opportunity to explore the kitchen bin for any leftovers.

It was only when charity worker Tracey spotted her dog “looking like a Smurf” later on and found the discarded ink cartridge on the kitchen floor that she was able to piece together what her bichon frise had been up to.

The mum-of-one stuck Rosie in the bath and rang her husband Robert to come and pick up the dog to head straight back to the groomers.

Funny pictures show Rosie sheepishly waiting in the bath for her lift to arrive, with a blue face and paws – appearing to even crack a nervous smile at her own troublemaking.

The salon welcomed back their regular client and were forced to shave off some of Rosie’s fur to remove the blue dye, but her nails retained their new colour for weeks afterwards.

Tracey, from Falkirk, said: “I decided to go into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee.

“When I got to the glass kitchen door I had to do a double take. I remember thinking ‘why is the dog blue?’ She looked like a smurf and seemed very pleased with herself.

“I thought maybe it was a reflection in the glass, then I saw the ink cartridge on the kitchen floor and I thought ‘oh my god she’s been into that’. She’d been in the kitchen bin and fished it out.

“It was mainly on her head but her wee nails were blue too. I didn’t know what to do with her so I chucked her in the bath.

“I phoned my husband who was at work to come and get her and take her back down to the groomers where she’d been the day before.

“I then sent my friend a Whatsapp voice note, I was wetting myself laughing shouting ‘the dog’s blue, the dog’s blue’.”

Rosie’s grooming session set her back another £40 – just 24 hours after her previous appointment – with the dog usually going six weeks between visits for a haircut and wash.

Tracey, who also has a three-year-old poochon named Honey, says she’s now purchased a new bin to stop it ever happening again.

“She’d just been done the day before and she looked pristine, really beautiful,” said the 50-year-old.

“Rosie’s a cheeky little lady and a well-loved member of the family, she’s a wee star.”
