FRSC Confirms Two Dead, 19 Injured in Fatal Auto Crash on Lokoja–Okene Road

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of two persons and injuries to 19 others following a fatal auto crash along the Lokoja–Okene Road in Kogi State.The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Osara community in Adavi Local Government Area, according to the FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi State, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, who briefed journalists in Lokoja.Etuku said the crash involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus and happened at about 9:40 a.m., describing it as a lone but fatal accident caused by excessive speed.

He disclosed that a total of 21 passengers were involved in the crash, with two fatalities recorded on the spot. Out of the 19 survivors, four sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from bruises to fractures.The injured victims were promptly rescued and taken to two nearby hospitals for medical treatment, while others with minor injuries received first aid at the scene. According to the sector commander, preliminary investigations revealed that the ill-fated bus had departed Kano on Monday evening, heading towards Auchi and Benin before the crash occurred. He added that FRSC operatives carried out the rescue operation and deposited the remains of the deceased at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital mortuary in Lokoja.

Etuku attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding, warning motorists against reckless driving, especially during the festive season.“Motorists and other road users must exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.

He further urged drivers to avoid speeding, ensure vehicle roadworthiness, and take personal responsibility for safety on the highways.The FRSC reiterated its commitment to road safety enforcement across Kogi State and called on travellers to remain vigilant and report dangerous driving behaviours to relevant authorities.
