The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced its 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations nationwide to ensure safer travel during the holiday period.
The exercise, which runs from April 1 to April 8, was announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, quoting the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed.
According to the agency, the operation is in response to the expected increase in vehicular and passenger movement as Christians mark the Easter celebration.
The FRSC said it has deployed personnel and equipment to major highways, including the Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Lokoja, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, and Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt corridors, among others, to manage traffic and respond to emergencies.
Mohammed warned that there would be strict enforcement against traffic violations such as speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, and operating unroadworthy vehicles.
He added that mobile courts would be stationed along key routes to ensure prompt prosecution of offenders, while patrol, rescue, and traffic management services would run round the clock.
The Corps also said public awareness campaigns would be intensified through radio and other media platforms to provide real-time travel advisories.
Motorists were urged to comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys. The FRSC advised road users to use its toll-free emergency line, 122, for assistance.
